Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a Happy Valentines Day. We had a nice evening at home. Warren BBQ'd ribs and sweetbreads for me. It was nice to come home for the weekend following Jackson's third cycle of chemo. He tolerated the treatments very well. He has not had any vomiting this cycle. His nausea has been well controlled the last two cycles. His appetite is going strong these days following his treatments. He even asked for seconds at dinner tonight. His latest cravings are Lucky Charms and today apple juice has taken the lead as pink milk falls in at second place for some reason.

We traveled back up to UCSF on Monday the 15th to be at his clinic appt at 9am on the 16th. His red blood cell counts were down already so they gave him another transfusion. This time he had hippopotamus blood. I chose his blood that day because he was asleep in the clinic when the blood came up. I think he would have chosen python blood again, but he was wiped out. That is our little joke to make light of things for him. He is always enjoys telling the nurses about what type of blood he requires!

Jack had his blood drawn yesterday at Marian Lab and that went well. We usually go to a Quest lab, but the last time we went, they couldn't get hardly any blood after three pokes. Jackson had had it that day so we chose to go with a hospital lab. This is beneficial because his results come back within 1 hour and if they can't draw him, then they can call in an RN to access his port and that is a for sure draw with no more than one poke. Jackson's white counts are very low this week which is normal for this time during the cycle, but his red blood and platelets are holding strong so no more transfusions this cycle. Jackson goes on Monday for more blood work and by then his counts are usually up where they need to be.

I am really sorry that I don't update the blog more often these days. Things are really busy these days, but I hope everyone still follows Jackson's Journey and please keep praying for his full recovery. So far our prayers have been answered one by one, and we will always be so grateful for everyones love, support, and prayers.

While speaking of prayers, could everyone please pray for our little friend, TJ Garcia. TJ is another child at UCSF that had a tumor in the same location as Jacks, but his is a different type of cancer called ATRT. TJ has been undergoing chemo at UCSF, and following his first cycle this month, TJ came down with a fever and pneumonia. When he was admitted to the PICU, he had no detectable white counts. This is extremely dangerous for a chemo patient. He is stable and his white counts are coming up slowly, and he has been on alot of antibiotics. Please pray for TJ and the Garcia family. TJ has, unfortunately, had alot of "bumps" in the road with his recovery from his treatments. Please pray that his will be the last of his "bumps" and that he can get on with his treatments with success and recover just as well as Jackson. Thanks!

Jenise

  1. I sent a prayer up for TJ. I will keep sending them as this gives us all hope. I am glad that Jackson is doing well this cycle. I may not always comment Jenise, but I am always checking in on how he is doing and how you and Warren are holding up. My prayers are out there for your family too! God Bless
