Jackson had his first day of radiation today. He did wonderful for the procedure. It took longer than they said it would because they have to take x-rays to determine if he was in alignment with the beams. He did not want me to leave the room, but I explained to him that I would be just around the corner and he was fine with that. Afterward, I showed him where I sat in the control room, watching the monitor, and speaking to him during the whole procedure with a microphone. He was fine with that. He was able to pick a toy out of the treasure chest when he was done, as he will be able to everyday. We are really glad that Jack doesn't need to be sedated every morning. Jackson ended up with an upset stomach with the radiation treatment today, so every morning they will give him an anti-nausea medication to prevent him from vomiting.
Jackson also received his first dose of chemo today called vinchristine. He will receive one dose every Thursday until he is done with radiation. He seemed to tolerate it very well.
We had a meeting with rehab team today to go over expectations and goals. Jackson is doing really well by their standards and they are very hopeful he will be walking (with holding someones hand) by the time he leaves here.
Step by step, one day at a time, we are all getting through this with so much support. We thank everyone so much!
